TEFA Homeschool Funding — $2,000 Per Child for Texas Homeschool Families

Homeschool families in Texas can receive $2,000 per eligible child annually through the Texas Education Freedom Accounts program. Here's how it works.

Who Qualifies

Your child must meet the same residency and eligibility requirements as other TEFA applicants—U.S. citizen or lawfully present, eligible to attend a Texas public school, and residing in Texas. You must be a Texas resident.

What Can You Use the $2,000 For?

Approved homeschool expenses include:

  • Curriculum and textbooks
  • Tutoring and educational therapies
  • Computer hardware and software (up to 10% of annual amount)
  • Other approved educational materials and services

You cannot use TEFA funds to pay yourself for teaching your child. Funds may not be used to pay a family member.

How to Apply

Apply through Odyssey during the application window (February 4 – March 17, 2026). Indicate homeschool as your intended educational setting.

Funds Roll Over

Unused funds at the end of the school year carry forward as long as your child remains in the program. You don't lose the money if you spend less than $2,000 in a given year.
